A LETTER FROM YOUR BOOSTER CLUB CO-PRESIDENTS (09/19/11)

On behalf of the HOYA Nation, we are planning for another terrific year!

Last year, our Varsity Boys and Girls teams advanced to the Region 4-AAAAA Tournament, with the Varsity boys making it to the first round of the State Tournament and winning the FIRST Region Tournament in 15 years.  This year, our combined high school varsity, junior varsity, and freshman teams, along with our middle school “Junior League” travel teams and our HYBA youth recreation league, will represent over 800 basketball players.  We are very proud of the accomplishments made on all levels of our program.

As you likely know, other than a $800. total donation from Cobb County for our entire basketball program (HYBA, Junior League and High School), our program is 100% self-funded.  Our annual budget is a shade under $200,000. and is realized through registration, concession sales, “Spirit Wear” sales and fund raising.  We do NOT receive one penny from the “gate” at any of our games.  In order for our program to rent the gyms it needs, refinish floors when necessary, provide uniforms for teams, pay referees and more… it is the HOYA Nation (us) who must make it happen financially.

And whether it’s volunteering to work in the Concession Stand or selling Wall Banners, we need your help! Please come forward and volunteer.  After all, it’s for our community’s youth!

Again, this year, we will be hosting a handful of special event nights around our Varsity games.  We will again have a “Salute To America” night honoring our country and the individuals who serve and protect us.  We will host a “Teacher Appreciation Night,” a “Junior League Recognition Night,” a “HYBA Youth Basketball Night,” a fund raiser for Susan G. Komen (“Pink Night focused on raising money for preventing and curing breast cancer), a night for our homecoming (“hoop-coming”) and of course our annual “Senior Night” acknowledging senior athletes, cheerleaders, trainers, managers, etc.  And so, above-and-beyond playing in the toughest region in the State of Georgia, our home games will be exciting, dynamic and themed.

We have been blessed with a great community… a terrific school… supportive administrators… talented, caring coaches… and a group of dedicated, committed, hard-working volunteers.  Our program has been successful and highly respected for the 21 years it has existed.  Please take being part of the “HOYA Family” seriously.  We need your support, your volunteerism and of course your willingness to help our program thrive and continue to grow.

This being our third non-consecutive term as Co-Presidents (we’ve had three boys in the program),

we have seen and experienced many other programs around the county and state… and we’re proud to say our Harrison Basketball Program is a highly respected leader.  We’re thrilled to help continue our tradition of “Academic and Athletic Excellence” and thank you all, in advance, for your help, support and volunteering.

Sincerely,

Kim & Ira Blumenthal, Co-Presidents        (IraSpeak@aol.com)
